Shine Editing is a fiction editing service, specialising in fantasy novels. I offer both big-picture feedback (critiques), as well as line-by-line suggestions that cover developmental editing. I enjoy looking at developmental aspects such as character arc, world-building, magic systems, foreshadowing, narration, point of view, subplots and plot development. When you choose to work with me and opt for one of my editing packages, you will receive suggestions covering pacing, structure, flow, and story arc. We can discuss your thoughts on your story objective and theme, as well as touch on your intended audience, genre, or what would be the ideal reader for your story. At all times, I endevour to help you maintain your author’s voice throughout your manuscript. When you hire me to do a deeper dive into your manuscript, I will look out for grammar, spelling and word choices that may interrupt the flow of your fantasy story as well as give you feedback on dialogue and narrative authenticity, scene flow, tension, setting, and inconsistencies, and help you iron out character consistency throughout your story.

Hi!

My name is Laurie Riddin. I am a freelance editor based in South Africa.  I have been an avid reader since I could first string words together into sentences. Fantasy has been a passion for me, and I love seeing the vast array of fantasy worlds, magic abilities, mythical creatures and other fictional elements that can be dreamed up. Every story is unique, and brings a sense of wonder to the reader, especially within a fantasy environment.

I live in a small seaside town of the beautiful Eastern Cape with my prince charming, two noble rascals, a clutch of happy hens, some wildlife and a shy bearded dragon.
